Brushed or polished: which jewelry suits your style?
A soft shimmer or a radiant shine? A different finish can change the whole look of a piece. Brushed textures have a soft glow, while polished surfaces reflect more light. We’ll show you the difference with our Roca rings and share ideas for wearing both.
Brushed, matte or polished?
These terms describe the finish. They don’t tell you what the jewelry is made from or whether it’s plated.
| Surface | How it looks |
|---|---|
| Brushed | Fine to clearly visible lines with a soft shimmer. |
| Satin | A particularly fine texture with a silky appearance. |
| Matte | Low reflection; can be achieved using different techniques. |
| Highly polished | Smooth and reflective like a mirror, with distinct light reflections. |
Not every matte finish is brushed. Take a look at the detail images as well as the product description: you’ll see how visible the texture is and how it follows the curves.
Roca or Roca Gleam: which look do you love?
The Roca Ring combines a wide, organically curved shape with a brushed finish and sparkling zirconia. On the Roca Gleam Ring, the curves meet a highly polished surface. Both are plated with 18k gold.
If you love a soft shimmer, the brushed version could be for you. For a little more shine, Roca Gleam is a lovely choice. The photos show how different the two finishes look.
How to combine the finishes
A simple white tee, an open blouse and one wide ring can be all you need. A brushed finish looks especially soft with knitwear, while a highly polished piece adds a bright contrast to matte fabrics.
You can wear both finishes together, too: try a brushed ring next to a slim, polished one. The same metal color or similar shapes help bring the look together. If you want one ring to stand out, pair it with something simple.
How to care for your jewelry
A little gentle care helps you enjoy your jewelry for longer. For pieces with gold or silver plating, it also protects the plating:
- Gently wipe your jewelry with a soft, clean, dry cloth.
- Avoid rubbing hard, abrasive cleaners and polishing pastes.
- Take your jewelry off before showering, swimming or exercising. Avoid direct contact with perfume and cleaning products.
- Keep pieces dry and store them separately so they don’t rub against each other.
Brushed jewelry can still get scratched. The texture may make small marks less noticeable, and regular rubbing can make some areas shinier over time. Don’t try to restore the brushed finish on plated pieces yourself, as you could damage the plating. Always follow the care instructions for your piece.
